Bodywork FAQs

Welcome! Here is what to expect for your first appointment:
We will ask about any surgeries, injuries, or health conditions. We will also ask about your reason for coming and what you hope to gain (your goals).
Please let us know if there are areas you do not want worked on.
We might also do some range of motion tests (lifting arms, bending, walking back and forth, etc.) before and after your service to see how you move and what might help.
Depending on the service you choose, you may be fully clothed (Craniosacral Therapy), in gym wear (Structural Integration), or dressed down to your comfort level (Manual Lymphatic Drainage/Lymphedema Therapy).
We will explain what we are going to do and what it might feel like as well as what it should not feel like
If you are doing Structural Integration, you should not be jumping off the table, hyperventilating, or otherwise showing that you are in a ridiculous amount of pain. You may feel some discomfort, and it should be at about a 5-7 on a 10-point scale (with 1 being the lowest). Anything above that, and what we are doing is no longer productive. You can expect us to check in several times about this.
We don’t care if you shave or not, but it is helpful to use less lotion on the day of your service.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.
Seriously, ask all the questions.

Structural Integration (SI) was created by Dr. Ida P. Rolf. SI focuses on fascia and soft tissue in a series of 10 or 13 sessions and ends with movement education. Through the series, we work on the body from head to toe.
The focus on alignment, structure, and integration encourages our bodies to lean into their natural placements, which tends to alleviate pain, tension, and discomfort. The goal is to help all parts of the body move as one. Structural integration can create lasting change that clients have been able to see and feel.

Typically, for most therapeutic goals, significant improvement should be noticed within 3-4 months of consistent, weekly therapy with good rapport and vulnerability. Often, with more complex trauma, layered concerns, or chronic issues, the timeline may lengthen. However, if someone is not seeing results within 3-4 months, either the approach or the therapeutic alliance needs to be re-evaluated.
